I didn’t get into coaching because it promised financial success. I got into it because I loved sports, I loved training, and both had a profound impact on my life and development.
My “Iron Bug” story started in middle school. I was always older for my grade and played football with the grade above me. That meant being buried in the depth chart for a couple years. But when eighth grade came, and I was finally playing with kids my own age, I saw an opportunity I didn’t want to waste.
My dad and my coach, a former college football player, and competitive bodybuilder kept it honest with me: if I wanted to reach my potential I had to start training seriously. That summer we hit the gym together. I learned the basics, got stronger, and more importantly hungrier. That season I became a major contributor on a team that made it to the finals and I carried that momentum into high school and beyond.
When it came time for college, I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to study, but I knew I loved football and training for it. I chose Kinesiology & Human Performance for my degree and spent five seasons as a student assistant coach for our football team. In my final year, I landed a strength & conditioning internship at Yale. That experience clicked—it was the perfect blend of my education and my love for the game of football.
After graduating I stayed in touch with my internship coordinator and eventually earned a position on staff. That role launched my coaching career and showed me the value of a great mentor and access to some of the best education I've ever received, an on the job masters if you will. A few years later I left the collegiate world to pursue something new for me, private online training.
Today I work in a space that’s rapidly evolving—combining technology, AI, and human guidance to deliver personalized coaching at scale. It’s a career shift that reflects a big part of the future of our field.
The idea for this website came from a recurring theme in my own growth: learning from those who’ve done it before me. All starting with my father, I’ve come to believe that a great mentor is one of the most powerful shortcuts to growth & success. This site is built around that belief. It’s meant to act as your virtual mentor, to help you understand the landscape of the fitness industry, point you to the best resources, and provide clarity in a space that’s often noisy and unclear.
This is the resource I wish I had: a degree, a certification, and a guide to help me connect the dots. My goal is to help you do the same, and do it faster.
